Where to Stay in North Goa: Candolim, Calangute, Baga & Sinquerim
Planning a North Goa holiday? Explore Candolim, Calangute, Baga and Sinquerim for beaches, food, shopping and Goa’s famous nightlife.
North Goa, Your Way
North Goa is easy to enjoy without planning every hour of the day.
You can start the morning at the beach, spend some time by the sea, walk around the market, stop somewhere for lunch and head back to your hotel for a little rest.
And once the sun goes down, Goa starts all over again.
Candolim, Calangute, Baga and Sinquerim are close enough that you do not have to spend the whole day around your hotel. You can enjoy the beach in one area, have lunch somewhere else and decide where to spend the evening later.
Start the Morning by the Sea
If you are staying around Candolim, Candolim Beach is an easy place to start the day.
Go down in the morning, spend some time in the water, walk along the beach or find a shack and sit down for breakfast or a cold drink.
There is no reason to rush.
A little further down is Sinquerim Beach, with Fort Aguada close by. If you feel like moving around, spend some time at the fort, enjoy the sea views and then head back towards Candolim.
Calangute and Baga are further along the same coastal side, so you can easily move between these areas during the day.
Walk Around Calangute
By late morning, head towards Calangute.
The roads around the beach stay busy with shops selling beachwear, clothes, souvenirs and all the little things people end up taking home from Goa.
Walk around, stop for a coffee or fresh juice and take your time.
When you start getting hungry, there is no shortage of choices.
There are restaurants, cafes and beach shacks all along the Candolim–Calangute–Baga stretch.
Souza Lobo is a very familiar name around Calangute, while Britto’s is one of the popular names around Baga.
But there are many more.
Sometimes the nicest lunch is simply at a beach shack that catches your eye while you are walking past.
Lunch Near the Beach
Lunch in Goa does not have to be a quick affair.
Find somewhere you like, sit down and enjoy it.
You will find seafood, Goan dishes, Indian food, continental food, snacks and drinks almost everywhere around this part of North Goa.
If you get a table close to the beach, even better.
Spend some time there, enjoy the afternoon and head back to the hotel when you are ready.
A little rest is useful because the day in Goa is far from over.
After Sunset, Goa Comes Alive
After sunset, Goa’s nightlife starts taking over.
Restaurants fill up, music gets louder, and the pubs, bars and clubs begin to come alive. What starts with dinner can easily carry on well into the night.
Around Candolim and Sinquerim, there are many popular places for dinner, drinks and music. Cohiba and SinQ are two familiar names around this side of North Goa.
Move towards Baga and you reach the very famous Tito’s Lane.
There are many clubs, pubs, bars and restaurants in and around this stretch, including well-known names such as Tito’s and Mambo’s.
Start with dinner, stop somewhere for a drink, listen to some music and then decide what you feel like doing next.
Goa’s Nightlife
Goa after sunset has a different feel altogether.
The beaches start emptying out, restaurants get busier, music begins to pick up and people start deciding where the night should go next.
Some evenings are simple — dinner by the beach, a couple of drinks and some live music. On other nights, you may head to a pub or club and stay out much later.
There is no fixed way to enjoy Goa at night.
Sometimes it is better to simply step out after sunset, see what is happening and let the evening take its own course.
Spend Some Time Around Baga
Baga has plenty happening throughout the day, but the area really changes once evening sets in.
Restaurants begin filling up, music starts coming from different places and people start moving towards the bars, pubs and clubs.
You may go there specifically for nightlife, or you may simply want dinner and a few drinks before heading back.
Both are very much part of a Goa holiday.
And if clubs are not your thing, there are enough restaurants, lounges and bars around to enjoy the evening without turning it into a late night.
Do Not Plan Every Hour
One of the nicest things about being in Goa is not having to follow a strict schedule.
You may go to the beach for an hour and stay much longer.
You may stop somewhere only for coffee and end up ordering lunch.
You may decide to have an early dinner and then find yourself out much later because you liked the music somewhere nearby.
That is part of the holiday.
With beaches, shopping, restaurants, markets and nightlife spread across Candolim, Calangute, Baga and Sinquerim, you can spend several days around this part of North Goa and still find something different to do.
Sometimes You Start Looking at Goa Differently
Most people first come to Goa for a holiday.
They come for the beaches, food, nightlife and a break from their everyday routine.
Then they come back again.
After a few visits, certain places become familiar. You remember the beach you enjoy, the road you like taking, where you stopped for lunch and where you normally end up in the evening.
After a few trips, it is quite natural to start wondering what it would be like to have a place of your own in Goa.
